Saskatchewan Aboriginal Literacy Gathering
Literacy: An Aboriginal Cultural Tradition

May 25 - 27, 2010

The Saskatchewan Aboriginal Literacy Network Inc. is very excited to announce the 4th Saskatchewan Aboriginal Literacy Gathering 2010. We are building on the success of the three previous Gatherings, which were held in Fort Qu'Appelle (2002), Wanuskewin/Saskatoon (2006), and Waskesiu, Prince Albert National Park (2008).

Advanced Education, Employment and Labour, Dakota Dunes CDC, and Saskatoon Star Phoenix

We are planning for another successful experience of learners, practitioners, and leaders in Aboriginal literacy. This time the Gathering will be held in East-Central Saskatchewan at the lovely Manitou Beach, near Watrous. Our main venue will be Danceland. People will enjoy the healing waters of this unique lake at the Manitou Beach Resort & Mineral Spa.

This will be an event that will draw participants from across Saskatchewan and Canada. We envision that people will share their experiences, practices, and perspectives on the unique approaches to literacy that includes Saskatchewan First Nations and Métis people, cultures, and languages. We are, one again, offering the Saskatchewan Aboriginal Literacy Awards & Gala, where we highlight, celebrate, and support leaders in Aboriginal literacy throughout Saskatchewan by honouring a special Aboriginal learner, practitioner, elder, and business/organization.

At this Gathering we plan to offer a panel session (a new feature), which will focus on Aboriginal perspectives/approaches in adult, family, workplace/Essential Skills, and community literacy. We are looking forward to bringing in speakers and workshop facilitators that can specifically speak to these areas of literacy.

Please follow the links below to get more information on presenting, becoming a sponsor or exhibitor, applying for practitioner/learner subsidies, Saskatchewan Aboriginal Literacy Awards, registration, and volunteer information, as each become available.
